AMA Lincoln: Building Community through Comms

As a board member of AMA Lincoln from June 2023 to January 2025, I led communications efforts that strengthened the chapter’s digital presence, increased member engagement, and streamlined internal and external messaging.

Starting as VP of Communications for Social Media, I later stepped into the broader EVP of Communications role, leading a small (but mighty) team of fellow volunteers and overseeing chapter communications across email, social media, web, and paid ads. Here's a look at what I created and contributed during my time on board:

On Brand Social Media Templates

To make things easier for our volunteer comms team — and to bring a more polished look to our posts — I designed a full set of branded Canva templates. These covered event promotions, chapter updates, member highlights, and more.

They weren’t just pretty — they were practical. New volunteers could jump in and start designing content without having to start from scratch or question whether it “looked AMA LNK enough.”

Social Media Growth & Engagement

I introduced a more intentional content calendar in Asana, captured photos and videos from each event for content, and made sure we posted about more than just our upcoming events. That shift led to consistent growth across our channels, including:

  • Increases in engagement and interactions (especially around event recaps and member-focused content)
  • A stronger presence on LinkedIn, where we reached more local professionals and potential members
  • Cleaner hand-offs and better planning across teams using shared content schedules

Meta Ads for Special Events

I also created and managed a paid Meta ad campaign for their annual graphic design competition, "CROPPED." These ads drove:

  • Increased event awareness and attendance (196 link clicks, 1.03% click through rate)
  • A better understanding of what kinds of creative resonated with our audience (hint: dynamic visuals + clear value)

Why It Mattered

All of this work helped bring more consistency, creativity, and connection to AMA Lincoln’s brand — online and in person. But maybe more importantly, it created a better experience for the people showing up: the members, the volunteers, the curious LinkedIn lurkers thinking about joining.

And for me? It was a chance to build something that could outlive my term. A structure and voice future comms volunteers could grow into — not start over.
